Whole Foods plans to open three new stores in Austin in the coming years, company officials said today.

The new stores include:

  • A store in the Hill Country Galleria, with an estimated target opening of spring 2012.

  • A Southwest Austin store in the Arbor Trails Shopping Center at MoPac Boulevard and William Cannon, with an estimated target opening of fall 2011.

Also, the previously-announced Domain location has an estimated target opening of spring 2013, spokeswoman Libba Letton said.

The Austin-based natural foods grocer continued to report stronger sales growth in its latest earnings call.

Whole Foods reported a 15 percent increase in sales, to $2.2 billion in the third quarter. Profits were up sharply, $65.7 million, or 38 cents per share, from $34.9 million and 25 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.

It was the company's fifth consecutive quarter of sales growth.

Same-store sales — or sales made at stores open for at least one year — were up 8.8 percent.

The results exceeded analysts expectations of 38 cents per share on revenue of $2.14 billion.

The new Austin stores are part of six leases that the company recently signed, including new locations in San Francisco. Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., and Boise, Idaho. The locations are expected to open starting in fiscal year 2012, according to the company.
