The Texas Workforce Commission reported that Central Texas lost just 500 jobs between March 2009 and last month. That's the smallest drop in more than a year. Economists have said Austin will start growing jobs this year. That will be helped by new employers in town, such as Facebook, as well as ramped up hiring by other local companies. Unemployment was 7.1 percent, still up from 6.6 percent from a year ago but down from 7.3 percent in February. The job loss rate reflects the change in the total number of jobs in the region. Last month, that was 760,300. The unemployment rate reflects the percentage of people in the workforce who do not have a job. Last month, that was 64,600 people out of a workforce of 909,600. In part due to people continuing to move to Austin, the workforce has grown from 873,000 in March 2009. Statewide, unemployment held steady at 8.2 percent for the fifth month in a row. The state gained 8,500 jobs last month. Permalink | Comments (2) | Post your comment Categories: Austin economy Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. Many Americans aren't any more more savvy about money than before the Recession. But at least they admit it. A survey by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling had 34 percent of the more than 2,000 Americans surveyed grading themselves a C, D or F on their knowledge of personal finance. They included both people in financial trouble and those who weren't. More than half didn't have a budget. Thirty percent had no savings. Two-thirds haven't sought their credit reports, though they're free. Before the Recession, the flood of easy credit covered up America's poor financial habits. But with the easy credit dried up now, people are waking up and admitting they don't know where their money goes, the survey found.

This doesn't include all of the people like my husband who has LOST unemployment benefits & still cannot find a job. I would like to know more about the jobs people are finding because he's had no success in his field (CAD- Surveying/Civil Engineering).
Maybe Medic Up has a solution for him & all of the other underemployed?

This surely won't fit the anti-Rick Perry and anti-Republican narrative that so many of the liberals love to espouse. I guess conservative government works huh? Want proof that liberal government fails. Look no further than California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois and Washington D.C. All broke and looking for a federal handout.
